How to do a Half Moon!

So I always get asked how I do these and it’s so, so simple!

Perfect for a lazy Sunday )

What you will need:

Two polishes of your choice

A clear topcoat

Hole reinforcements - YES! I got mine from WH Smith, they’re quite cheap!

A spare hour

First, paint your nails whatever colour you want the half moon to be. I went for white and you’re usually better picking a lighter colour just for ease because you’ll be painting over it. But I’ve done black before and it didn’t show through so it just depends if you’ve got time to paint multiple coats!

Most people will tell you not to paint all the way to the tip because it’s getting covered anyway but I just do it because you can sometimes see through the top polish! Let them dry for like ten minutes, I usually dip them into freeeezing cold water to speed up the process because I’m hideously impatient, but you really want them to be bone dry before you start the next step.

Get your trusty hole reinforcements and cut/rip them in half. You could keep them whole but I find that they go a bit bumpy and don’t sit right. I also like to take some of the stickiness out by pressing them with my fingers a couple of times and then all you need to do is just line them up on your nail. The outside edge will be the edge of your half moon. It’s nice to keep it away from the edges to get more of a curve but you can play about with them and see what you like best. Just to be safe, peel it back off and check none of your lovely polish lifts off before you commit to painting the rest of them. It’s mega disappointing when you’re finished and the polish comes off :(

Then all you need to do is paint a coat over it (make sure not to get it into the hole!). Sometimes you might need another. Wait until it’s fully dry, peel it off aaaaand there you go!!

I like to finish with a topcoat just to seal it all in and make it look effortless, which it pretty much is anyway! <3 Enjoy!

Sorry my photos are so rubbish but you get the jist! If you try it then submit your photos, I’d love to see them!
